About Us

The Vilas Food Pantry has been serving Vilas County residents for over thirty-five years.  The Pantry started in the basement of St. Mary of the Snows Episcopal Church (Silver Lake Road) on June 26, 1983, funded with food and monetary contributions from church members.

Marge Scarse, one of the original pantry organizers, recognized early on “that we needed to reach out to the community at large to recruit more food donations than our small church family could supply”.  That simple insight started what is now a strong pantry supported by individuals, local businesses, social organizations, service clubs, churches and the many friends of the Pantry.

The Pantry moved to its current location in 1986 and did a substantial renovation in 2006 to accommodate the growing needs of our community.  Our all-volunteer staff provides supplemental and emergency food assistance to people in need.  More than half of our recipients are elderly people on a fixed income.
We are blessed to be supported by a very generous community of people who support our mission to help those in need.
